Forthcoming work at Broadstone Rec.

I am the Parks Officer for the North of Poole and would like to notify you of some recent and forthcoming work at Broadstone Recreation Ground. Firstly you may have noticed some Rhododendrons have been cut back on a section of one of the banks around the cricket pitch. This was done to improve the view onto the cricket pitch for people using the path. This clearing work also gives a lighter, more open feel to the pathways. Also, a small retaining wall made from old railway sleepers has been constructed behind the toilet block. This will prevent leaves and soil being washed down the bank and covering the paths in that area. There are also plans to reinstate a disused footpath that goes through woodland at the back of the cricket pitch, however this depends on available funds. Further work is planned around the War Memorial. Firstly, the large Rhododendron hedge to the left of the Memorial is to be lowered in order to give a view of the Memorial when approaching from the Ridgeway entrance. Secondly, the shrub borders behind the Memorial are to be replanted and the edges redefined. In the old bowling green area some self set trees are to be removed and a laurel hedge lowered to improve the view of a palm tree set back in the alcove. All the works are intended to improve the views of the features of the park and to generally 'tidy up' the site. If any residents have any comments they would like to make regarding the work please feel free to contact me on the following e-mail address L.Giles-Townsend@poole.gov.uk

Many thanks,

Lucy
